A bold and irresistible collection of 73 found-object collages made in 1984 by celebrated painter John Evans.

From the 1960s until 2000, Evans made a daily collage from scraps found on the streets of New York. Often whimsical and ironic, these combinations of packing labels, personal notes, photographs, business cards, ticket stubs and other bits of ephemera encompass the bits and pieces of daily life.

JOHN EVANS was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He grew up in California. He received B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees from the Art Institute of Chicago, and moved to New York City in 1963. Shortly thereafter, he began his daily collages.

JOHN STRAUSBAUGH is a journalist and cultural commentator based in New York City. He is the author of several books, including Sissy Nation: How America Became a Culture of Wimps & Stoopits and Black Like You: Blackface, Whiteface, Insult & Imitation in American Popular Culture.
